Authority LinkBuilding! What and How..

As many of you guys have read somewhere or have been told by some SEO guru that you should build authority links(however nobody tell you from where to get that damn authority link). So lets talk bout what exactly is authority link or how can you classify a link as an authority link.

authority link building ideas

An authority link is a backlink from a site already trusted by Google in terms of trust rank or hub rank in topic sensitive page rank. Its a factor of Google Algorithm, in which once a web site is detected to be an authority, it will get more visibility in SERP’s on related or even non-relatd words. Read here the full documentation by Google regarding this.
Topic sensitive Rank By Google (PDF FILE)

Google consider these sites as an authority in there related niches or in general. And a link from these websites considered to be an authority link. For example Wikipedia is an authority site in Google’s eye. If you succeed to get a link from there, then this link of yours will be termed as an authority link for your website. What the advantage of authority links?

A huge boost in your ranking, increase in your own site trust level. What else you want honey!!

Now many of us think or assume that only a site with .edu or .gov tld can be an authority which is not correct by any mean. Take again t he example of Wikipedia. It don’t have any .edu .or .giv tld but still Google consider it as an authority. Yahoo.com .. a simple .com domain but Google gives sufficient importance to anything coming fromt his domain. (lets forget MSN for some time :P)

But gaining links from these sources can be a real pain in ass. Although you have read at many big players blog’s that ask by sending en email to some student and he will be happily place your link at his or her blog; but trust me here, its like 1 out of 100 person that will actually reply your email and that reply will be not so encouraging. For big name its easy to get links from these sources as people are fame addicted. Once they see that this person is popular in its industry, they gonna accept everything from him, never mind it will be truth or just some stupid personnel thought. And once they get an email from that person they will be in OMG condition fro several days…bragging bout there mail at there blog or website. So what to do to get links from trusted sources for a blog or websites which is somewhat new?

I will tell you one very simple way to get links from Wikipedia. And if that link won’t remain there then believe me some Wikipedia editor is just jealous of you. So what you have to do is simply make a list of all the manufacturer’s/authorities/sources/references/glossaries etc website in your niche. Lets say you have an auto related website. Make a list of all the auto manufacturers and categorize it regionally. Here is an example of that list

Asian Automobiles Manufacturers
Name: Suzuki
(A little description goes here of two lines)
Url: www.company-domain.com

Once completed, you can submit its link on Wikipedia under the related article. Once it get stable there, that link will not only give you many backlinks but also more visitors and obviously , an increment in SERP’s ranking.

Try this list idea and you will be amazed with the results. Moreoever its not like some niche restricted, you can do it in any industry with different types of list.

How To Use Social Network Sites For Link Building!

Social media is the next big thing to target after Search Engines for traffic and backlinks. Social networking has become a a very effective method of promotion and you can run very effective link building campaign there and can build some high quality back links for your website or blog.

Now before going to the exact trick some stiff about social networking sites…

social
Social Networking sites are basically the community sites that that you can join and then search for people within the community with similar interests as you. Majority of these people has there own websites or blog running. Some social networking sites are very small and focused, so by definition the people who join such sites are already members of a tightly focused interest group. Such a group might be brought together by their political or religious beliefs, or it could be something such as their hobbies (they love Ford Mustangs or makingcheesecake) sports or basically anything else that mankind has found it possible to be interested in! So, in such a tightly focused group, almost all members without exception will be interested in the one common thing. However, there are many other community sites where the only real common interest that most of the members could possibly ever have with one another is that they are all, in fact, members of the same site!

This is simply a function of the size and therefore the diversity of the sites in question, with websites like MySpace and FaceBook having literally millions of members all over the globe. (107 and 73 million members respectively) Such sites generally have a totally open membership, meaning that anyone can become a member, no matter what their hobbies, beliefs, or views are. Thus, there is no general community wide commonality of beliefs or interests either. It is therefore only natural that once you are a member, inside this online community, you can begin to create your own network of friends, those that do
have similar interest and/or beliefs to those of your own. And this is where it gets interesting for you as an Internet marketer or online business person.

Firstly, if we use MySpace as our example, then you are looking at one of the ten biggest websites in the world. Whatever your interests, given so many millions of members, then there will inevitably be others that have similar interests, people that you could potentially ‘bond’ with immediately. For example, a MySpace search using the phrase ‘traffic generation’ returned 5,650 results. So that is over five and a half thousand people who might be interested in your traffic blog site from a direct ‘match’ of my search term to the specific subject topic of my blog site. However, run a search for a more generic (and broader) term like Internet marketing, and you get 45,400 results. Now, it is a very reasonable assumption that anyone who is interested in Internet marketing is trying to sell something on the net, and that they therefore need traffic to their website. So, of course, these people would be legitimate ‘target prospects’ for what I am trying to promote also. Take it one stage further and use single word search ‘marketing’ and it returns 549,000 results. Again, it is reasonable to assume that all of these people are at least interested in bringing their products or services to the marketplace, so, once again, traffic generation could be of immense interest to them. So, all I need to do is to tell them about the great resource that I have available, and that will be the ‘deal done’ right? Err, no, not really, unless the ‘deal’ that you are talking about is having your MySpace ‘space’ and account closed down immediately! The thing is that the folks who run MySpace really do not want their ‘community site’ turning into a commercial free-for-all, a sort of online bazaar, and they will go to any lengths to protect their site.

So, you cannot just open your account one day and start bombarding people with your commercial messages or asking them for backlinks. In the same way that, when you join any quality forum site, you have to establish yourself as a valid contributing member before you can start promoting your products or even adding a signature file with a redirect to your website you must establish yourself on community websites too. So, the first thing that you must do is to take some time and make an effort to create a proper profile or more specifically an active presence, something that shows that there is a real person behind the newly opened account. Then, you must start looking for ‘friends’ in the MySpace community, but you must do so gradually, as you are limited to so many friend invitations a day and, even if you weren’t, inviting a thousand new friends a day hardly looks natural or normal, does it?

So, start to become a real member of the community before you start promoting, is the bottom line. Sure, by all means begin to invite people to be your friends, but do try to spend a little time getting to know them and building up a relationship before trying to interest them in your business. Now, the great thing about a blog site is that it is pretty natural that, after you have been someone’s ‘friend’ for a while, that you might invite them to take a look at your blog or do some link exchange or even give your site a backlink from there site for just being friends.

That is far less threatening and direct than asking them to look at a ‘full-on’ sales page, for example. Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter what community site you are a member of, the secret is go gently and slowly, build relationships and try to nurture something at least vaguely like a ‘real’ friendship before trying to get people to visit your business themed blog site. And, just in case MySpace and FaceBook, with a combined membership of 200 million members are not enough to keep you busy, here and here are lists of many more such sites!

Going Viral - How to Of Viral Linkbuilding!

In recent years there has been more and more written about Viral Marketing and why you should be using it to drive traffic to your site. So, what is viral marketing, and why should you care? Is this just another fad that will soon fade away?

Viral marketing is a way to involve other people spread your message. We can apply the very same concept in link building campaigns and create a viral link.

In short, viral linking works exactly in the same manner as viral marketing. It involves getting other people to willingly spread your link or article for you. People who like what you have done tell other people, and the message spreads from person to person like a virus. When that happens, it is referred to as your message or link “going viral.”

This link building tip relies heavily on word of mouth advertising; someone sees or reads what you have to offer and post in at his blog or website linking back to your website/blog. The readers of that blog/website see or read that message and they post to there websites or may recommend the link to a couple of their friends, and they tell a couple of their friends, and so on. The number of people who are aware of you and your message increases exponentially. The more people hear about your site, the faster your traffic grows. How large will it grow? There is really no way to tell. The only real limit to the amount of traffic possible is how many people your site host can handle.

Just think about how quickly it could spread. If one person saw your message and told 2 people, who told 2 people, who told 2 people, and it continued, your message would very quickly be in front of thousands of people. If each person just told two other people, look how quickly it can grow.

1 x 2 = 2
2 x 2 = 4
4 x 2 = 8
8 x 2 = 16
16 x 2 = 32
32 x 2 = 64
64 x 2 = 128
128 x 2 = 256
256 x 2 = 512
512 x 2 = 1024

Now just imagine if you started with 100 people spreading your message or link, or 1,000 people. You can see that it doesn’t take long before hundreds of thousands, or even millions of people are aware of who you are, and better still, are visiting your web site and buying your products or services.

Social media plays the vital role in any viral marketing or viral link building campaign. By creating something that is worth talking about and passing along, you create a “buzz” that spreads across the internet, people will link back to your site and traffic floods to your site to see what the buzz is about. Once they are there, if they like what they see, they pass the information along, and the buzz continues to grow. Though its not easy to covert the traffic from such buzz as you aren’t in control of what type of traffic will be generated by this.

Making something that goes viral is another task that itself is a big issue. You need to research lot and come up with something unique or something that has not been explored in your industry. Or you can counter some pre existing theory in your niche. Or the simplest method is to gather all the resources on some specific topic and post it.

There are several reasons that you should be using viral link trick or traffic generation techniques to build your business and attract customers to your website.

1. It is a fast, effective way to drive traffic to your site.
2. It can be very inexpensive.
3. It can brand you or your website in your industry
4. Helps you be authority in future
5. Helps you get hundreds of backlinks
6. Can increase trust rank in eyes of Google

One thing to remember is that a negative message can go viral, too. Unfortunately, you are not going to be able to please everyone. If you do enough business, eventually you are going to have someone who is unhappy with you and your business. It only takes one customer that is dissatisfied to put a shadow of doubt in your customer’s minds about whether they should do business with you or not. Once that doubt is there, it is hard to remove it. If people are not happy with the service they received, they are more likely to tell people about it than if they are happy customers. So be sure to make the things as much smooth as possible.

Link Building Via Competitor Analysis

After doing the basic link building like directory submission or forum participation, what one can do to build quality backlinks for his website. The solution is simple and lies right in front of you. Competitor Analysis!

Though basically the competitor analysis started the very same moment when you decided to make a website in same niche. you search for the terms related to that niche and see which sites are coming up with what services. you then try to come up with a better solution or something entirely unique. But competitor analysis for backlinks can plays a major role in improving your rankings in SERP’S.

The theory is simple…See the backlinks of your competitor and try to get link from the very same resources. This will give you the advantage of getting good position in less time as compare to your competitor. you wil find variety of links when doing competitor back links analysis like directories, forums, blogs etc etc. Divide these resources in three sections

1. Free resources
2. Paid resources
3. Exchange resources

Free resources include directories, forum participation, etc etc. Paid resources include buying links or reviews on blog. And the exchange resource include link exchange, banner exchange etc etc.

Go for the free resources first. Get as much as you can. Then target the Exchange resources. See what you can give to get link from there website. if you have to do link exchange then consider making a separate page for such links. in the last go for paid links.

Now the strategy is clear but one thing is missing…The Tool.  Since Google has completely stopped showing anyone’s backlink via link: query the only and the best option we have now is Yahoo explorer and other third party tools.

In the upcoming posts we will discuss each tool with its specialties and working.

What Is A Quality Backlink?

There were days when getting a link is enough to get you on top spot on major search engines like Google. These were the days when you keep all your important keyword in meta keyword tags and then the search engines has no choice left but to rank your website on top spot on those terms. But those good old days are gone now. Though the link building is still the major part of the game, the rules are changed a lot.

Earlier what matter is the number of links you get for your website. Then Google started to evaluate a website backlinks considering many factors. Now a days Google consider many factors including quality of links, Age of links, Link placement etc when accepting a link as a vote for some website. But Lets say I have found a place or website from where a back link has proven to give boost to one of my website. what chances are there that the link from same place to some other website will perform in the very same fashion. Here starts the trouble and that dreadful theory that All links are not Equal..

Google and the other search engines use very complex mathematical formulas (algorithms) to determine how high up a site should come in the search results when a phrase is typed in. The search results vary over time, by search engine and by whereabouts in the world you are searching. Some experiments are also going on in the search engine world to use your previous searches as a clue to what you are likely to be looking for. Inbound links to your site will generally help you in the search results but all inbound links are certainly not equal.

There were days when the theory applies that If you are lucky enough to get a link from, say, the front page of CNN’s site then this will count for a lot more weight in the search engine’s view than a link from your best friends’s blog, for instance. But it seems that this theory works no more. Now the backlink quality is something that is consider by Google even more rather than those traditional signals like PageRank, outbound links etc etc. So what exactly I mean when i say Quality Of Backlink?

AS you know that Google recently update its algorithm to minimize the effect of links from blogroll of a blog. Why? Cause its now really easy to buy a link from a webpage having 6 PageRank for some dollars. So to minimize the effect of this practice; Google is considering the actual value of links in term of relevancy, Age, and of course the link place.

The relation between the content of the page and the link going outside from that page is the core factor in evaluating a backlink now. Let say I happened to get a backlink from a web page having 5 Google PageRank. My website topic is pet food but the content of the page, from where i am getting link, is about mesothelioma cancer. Chances are that such backlink is worthless for me. Although it do pass some PageRank but I doubt that such type of links are playing any important role in terms of ranking.

Similarly the age of the link is also becoming more important as many people get link for 3 months just to pass the PageRank to there website and once achieved they remove the link from that page. But recently I experienced something unique. As many of us know that the oldest the link become, the more value it pass. But I come across a site whose backlinks are now one year old but they aren’t passing anymore link juice. They did boost ranking in beginning but now they are become obsolete in terms of boosting ranking. Strange but true.

Similarly the link place is becoming more important. As the traditional places like navigation already loses there strength in terms of boosting the ranking on some specific keywords, places like blogroll or even side bar losing there importance gradually. And after the implementation of Google’s New Algo update in Google Blog Search, its safe to assume that such thing can apply to websites too in near future.

As times passes the link building wil become more and more smart but we can conclude that an ideal back link in current scenario is within the text body area of the website preferable within text, relevant to the content appearing on that page and remain there for a longer time.
